<br />
The sun continues to burn.<br />
<br />
And the San Jose Sharks choked on a great start to the season.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The pain... it <i>Burns.</i></td></tr>

<br />
<br />
After kicking off the season on a dominant 7-0 tear, the Sharks have now dropped five games in a row bringing their record down to 7-3-3.<i> </i>While a record like that is good enough to earn them the fourth spot in the West for now, further struggles could see the Sharks drop down the standings, and fast.<br />
<br />
Critics have said it time and time again, but it bears repeating; the Sharks big guns need to come up huge for them to win big, including goaltender Antti Niemi. Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton both got off to a fast start, but in the Sharks four losses, they've been held to only one point, both of which came in their second most recent 2-6 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.<br />
<br />
This team has mad potential. Cup winning potential even. But before that they need to get their shit together, big time.<br />

Hope has escaped me. I genuinely don't think there's going to be a season, and as you can see, I have begun to lash out at my friends and family.<br />
<br />
Yesterday I was sitting at the dinner table with my family, eating Christmas dinner, and when my grandma asked me to pass the cranberries. I thought she said Crosb-erries so I blacked out and cut her with a 2005-2006 Yann Danis rookie card.<br />

We're sorry. Truth be told, there have been better days for this blog. I mean let's be honest, it ain't easy being cheesy, and by cheesy, I of course mean writing about a league so broken that it's players can't come to an agreement with their teams, or the man whom they pay to get them to an agreement with said teams.<br />

Lately, we've learned that the NHL is bringing in federal mediators, such as Guy Serota, to help solve this crisis. As proven by Serota's tweet from his recently deleted Twitter account, we are in good, albeit racially insensitive, hands (maybe).<br />
<br />
Meanwhile in Europe, select big name NHL stars have found temporary teams. Even players like Paul Bissionnette have new homes. For fan favorite BizNasty, it's the United Kingdom's Cardiff Devils, where he has posted (as of the time of this article's publishing) an impressive 16 points in 7 games. Flyer's center Claude Giroux was recently forced to leave his lockout team, the DEL's Eisbaren Berlin, due to concussion/neck issues. Finally Pittsburgh Penguin's star center Evgeni Malkin was recently seen in photographs being mounted by goats, and even better, spooning with a white lion.<br />

Malkin clearly doesn't give a good God damn about anything but being awesome.<br />
<br />
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to crawl back into the cave of NHL-related depression that I've been living in for the past three months. It's cold and sad, but at least I don't have to run the risk of seeing Johnathan Cheechoo try to play hockey.<br />

Shit Got Real.Buffalo Sabre's forward Patrick Kaleta has been suspended for 4 games following an incident in the Sabre's November 2nd game against the Flyers, and by incident, I mean Kaleta headbutted another player for the second time of his career.<br />

<br />
In a National Hockey League where hundreds of players and coaches are concerned with concussions and head shots, Patrick Kaleta stands alone. What a ballsy move, endangering another player's head <u>and</u> his own head in a single play. What an over-achiever.<br />

<br />Sorry guys, we really dropped the ball for a while there.<br /><br />Really though, this season is off to a solid start, and for what its worth, we're coming back to blogging with a vengeance*. Some points of interest from this young season so far after the jump.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />*Vengeance is subject to change. Make the jump, like a boss.<br /><br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMxlJhJrur9IjLaUCHB8dCmi04PM44UVLOtDMxtFRphyphenhyphen4V4QkXxDG6-tgkRd0kNSFAMBxHDtYPoXeDrkcGsLorNX1GjM40NXLL7nbWC9QU4ZGistlPVaXyMA2yi_8C5Aqtehk8NfseL88/s1600/jagr-salute.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMxlJhJrur9IjLaUCHB8dCmi04PM44UVLOtDMxtFRphyphenhyphen4V4QkXxDG6-tgkRd0kNSFAMBxHDtYPoXeDrkcGsLorNX1GjM40NXLL7nbWC9QU4ZGistlPVaXyMA2yi_8C5Aqtehk8NfseL88/s320/jagr-salute.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />- Jagr's back. He got some points and stuff, and looks like he can still snipe. He's also apparently planning on beating the shit out of his "salute" goal celebration. Dick.<br /><br />- The Jets made their grand re-entry into the league by going 2-5-1 in their first 8 games. <br /><br />- Not to be out done by the Jets, the Blue Jackets flat out suck. They have one win. Keep it up guys.<br /><br />- Nabokov is actively in net for the Islanders this season, which is great for both parties, except Nabby definitely hates being there, so it's really an awkward situation.<br /><br />- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been absolutely killing it for the Oilers, leading the team with 5 goals and 3 assists in 8 games. Too bad they'll probably send him back to juniors for more development.<br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj75K-3DGEq8DJmk8MBUHFZNT2Wzd7UFpSYfa3TKzqqfAgNnP8DWkQVzBL-EOvRYpRSdKgKedEI7LaD_AEohgYvPOAIM3QSJptOBwtVKI6t4F_XX2AhUsMCX7iAfA_TycH2zKphaB9i9wU/s1600/roberto-luongo3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj75K-3DGEq8DJmk8MBUHFZNT2Wzd7UFpSYfa3TKzqqfAgNnP8DWkQVzBL-EOvRYpRSdKgKedEI7LaD_AEohgYvPOAIM3QSJptOBwtVKI6t4F_XX2AhUsMCX7iAfA_TycH2zKphaB9i9wU/s1600/roberto-luongo3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />- Luongo sucks.<br /><br />- Washington has yet to lose (7-0). That's all.<br /><br />
- Dallas is 7-2, and leads the Pacific Division to start the season. They have won approximately 7 more games than I though they would at this point.<br /><br />- Phil Kessel leads the league in points (15) and in goals (9), and the Maple Leafs are in first in the Northeast. Good for them. Seriously, it's about damn time.<br /><br />- Also some guy is coming back soon...<br /><br />

The other 29 teams better keep their heads up, because it looks like this season Evgeni Malkin is taking over. From watching him play and reading his interviews, it looks like Malkin is taking his game to a whole new level, and taking no prisoners.<br />

Coming this season he will be under a 2 way $600K contract with the St. Louis Blues. I flat out don't understand where the Blues are going right now with their recent signings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Pictured: Cheechoo days before his talent was reported missing. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Cheechoo was once a 50 goal scorer, but that was literally one season. The next seasons he played just didn't click for him. He's tallied a mere 17 NHL goals between 2008 and 2010 with the Sharks and Senators (the Sens bought out his contract and he played a season with the AHL's Worcester Sharks). Needless to say, I'm no Cheechoo fan, I don't think he'll do well, and I think as far as goal-scorers go he's a one hit wonder, but I guess we'll see how he does in St. Louis...<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtf5vs10XsaObOUTJ7cc5SlBEwylgR_P1Vr1N8Bdhk03grEGd0qxvjvq-jA9LpuwNS6-JMDZ_o8DpQbkR3T_urNedZKDNkmoTkgEdk9It086aCdP6JFq0WNHsm5LVe_cfbKomgV9Hd6Yw/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-07-06+at+4.05.27+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtf5vs10XsaObOUTJ7cc5SlBEwylgR_P1Vr1N8Bdhk03grEGd0qxvjvq-jA9LpuwNS6-JMDZ_o8DpQbkR3T_urNedZKDNkmoTkgEdk9It086aCdP6JFq0WNHsm5LVe_cfbKomgV9Hd6Yw/s320/Screen+shot+2011-07-06+at+4.05.27+PM.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Personally, I feel awkward about this deal. Langenbrunner is 35 and Arnott is 36, and I have nothing against older players, but I dont understand why the Blues feel they need both. I don't think this is a deal that will make or break the Blues (unless injuries happen) but I think there were better players available to be signed.Adamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17657332635948723825noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-46368262379504983212011-07-05T16:37:00.009-04:002011-07-05T17:11:51.916-04:00Kaberle Signs in Carolina; Bruins Bring in CorvoToday has been an uncharacteristically busy day for free agency. I know this because I've been working the <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/Ducks2Nucks">Ducks2Nucks twitter</a> today, and it is blowing up with signings rumors and trades. Two of the most impacting transactions of the day have been Tomas Kaberle's new contract in Carolina, and Joe Corvo being moved by the Hurricanes to Boston in exchange for a 4th round draft pick.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmDYLNKvQQNwp7DliHd4S9j_EKX2o383-1FREvh4RTnIb4zXjzTi7WEfbJPgLZnULvNaVLlLyfplF1smOMWtJEzane7fFUuuCZi-kUMV1duzt0HAsNCOgWfSUY1ECLoZJzNFvIhSyAWf8/s1600/Kaberle-Cup.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625975312043396962" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmDYLNKvQQNwp7DliHd4S9j_EKX2o383-1FREvh4RTnIb4zXjzTi7WEfbJPgLZnULvNaVLlLyfplF1smOMWtJEzane7fFUuuCZi-kUMV1duzt0HAsNCOgWfSUY1ECLoZJzNFvIhSyAWf8/s320/Kaberle-Cup.jpg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 198px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
It's no secret that Kaberle didn't work out the way fans wanted him to in Boston, and we knew he wasn't resigning there, so maybe playing in Carolina will click better for him and show an upgrade in stats. As far as Joe Corvo and the Bruins go, Boston was just looking for an avid replacement for Kaberle on the blueline, and Corvo could very well be that replacement.<br />

Corvo hasn't ever put up as many assists as Kaberle, and usually doesn't match his point totals, but as of late he's stepped up as a veteran defensive leader who can put the puck in the net.Adamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17657332635948723825noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-50496773548383766832011-07-05T12:15:00.002-04:002011-07-05T12:18:54.616-04:00Ducks2Nucks Embraces Technology; Joins Twitter<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
San Jose GM Doug Wilson and Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher are no strangers to each other. After last night, the GM's have completed two big trades with each other in just over a week.<br />
<br />
Earlier, the Sharks traded Devin Setoguchi for All-Star defenseman Brent Burns. Now the teams have swapped superstar wingers, with San Jose sending Dany Heatley to Minnesota for Martin Havlat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Both players will be a good addition to each team. This was a pretty even trade on both sides, but Heatley struggled in clutch situations for the Sharks so it seems that this is just a roster shakeup for both teams. The Sharks are hoping that Havlat can provide consistent scoring while the Wild can build their system around Heatley in some ways.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Only time will tell the real winner of this trade, but for now, both teams seem to have come out on top.</div>

A lot of big names were moved around including Simon Gagne, Tim Connolly, Ville Leino, and Michael Ryder, but today we will look at the top free agent signing at the forward, defenseman, and goalie position.<br />
<br />
<u>Top Forward:</u><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Brad Richards</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0NPB2MsL35o/ThCPDPFVSiI/AAAAAAAAAWY/6_NbkPKlPJQ/s1600/Brad+Richards+Rangers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0NPB2MsL35o/ThCPDPFVSiI/AAAAAAAAAWY/6_NbkPKlPJQ/s320/Brad+Richards+Rangers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b><br />
Brad Richards waited it out through day 1 of free agency while 75 other players found new teams or re-signed with their former teams. Early on in day 2, Richards made his decision to go with the New York Rangers by signing a 9 year deal worth $60 million. He finished last year with 28 goals and 49 assists in 72 games. He'll also surely help out the Rangers, who at times, struggled to put the puck in the net.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<u>Top Defenseman:</u><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Ed Jovanovski</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vuUZELkNeEM/ThCS0h6DBPI/AAAAAAAAAWc/6p8kAGR-ZUs/s1600/dal_phx_110807_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vuUZELkNeEM/ThCS0h6DBPI/AAAAAAAAAWc/6p8kAGR-ZUs/s320/dal_phx_110807_4.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Although age is no longer on Jovanovski's side, the 35 year old continues to prove he still has it. The 5 time all-star signed a 4 year, $16.5 million dollar deal with the Florida Panthers, the team that Jovo began his career with. The signing of Jovanovski was just one of many moves the Panthers made to help re-vamp their team. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Top Goalie:</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Tomas Vokoun</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WDgBhl4dM8Y/ThCVYG1BxmI/AAAAAAAAAWg/agAqT3JetFo/s1600/tomas_vokoun.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WDgBhl4dM8Y/ThCVYG1BxmI/AAAAAAAAAWg/agAqT3JetFo/s320/tomas_vokoun.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After trading away Semyon Varlamov, the Washington Capitals signed goalie Tomas Vokoun to an amazing 1 year deal worth $1.5 million. Vokoun has finished each of the past 3 seasons with over a .920 save percentage. He has also has won 20 or more games in each of the past 8 seasons. He will provide the Capitals with veteran stability in net.</div>Evanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01702798292729583413noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-57010190928875264002011-06-24T14:48:00.000-04:002011-06-24T14:48:29.711-04:00The New Look of the Nashville Predators<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2J6340hbfL0Rbn-gyVNYVhUzh9ndiUCLPpoMGDw2B6v1xPuENEKOh8-2dvLR2blL8cCD5dgAfZDohUaQ5Ji_1SLyiHyGIELsercXp5dBsZ6uu4L6PvsGdInc_3fASginEL3NsL2ESUfg/s1600/0622-nsh-newlogos.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2J6340hbfL0Rbn-gyVNYVhUzh9ndiUCLPpoMGDw2B6v1xPuENEKOh8-2dvLR2blL8cCD5dgAfZDohUaQ5Ji_1SLyiHyGIELsercXp5dBsZ6uu4L6PvsGdInc_3fASginEL3NsL2ESUfg/s320/0622-nsh-newlogos.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Rumor has it that these are not the final designs but are extremely close to what the final designs will look like (Basically the same, from what I hear). Personally, I have mixed feelings towards the jerseys. I'm always a fan of color but the piping and stripes strike me oddly. Regardless, we'll all have to hang on and see what becomes of these newly leaked photos.Adamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17657332635948723825noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-57647184551042589582011-06-23T18:10:00.000-04:002011-06-23T18:10:57.060-04:00Flyers Make Major Shakeups Before The DraftEarlier today the Philiadelphia Flyers turned their salary cap standings and team roster upside down by shuffling some of their bigger names off to other teams and bringing in a bonafide goaltender with a huge price tag.<br />

<br />
That is the number of season tickets that were sold to Winnipeg fans during a 3 day pre-sale and 17 minutes into their public sale. 5,850 were sold during that 17 minute span as the other 7,150 were sold to the season ticket holders of the Manitoba Moose the previous 3 days. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZHiPN1rGo8/TeqERG31LbI/AAAAAAAAAWU/3QYSSl-DAto/s1600/MTS-Centre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZHiPN1rGo8/TeqERG31LbI/AAAAAAAAAWU/3QYSSl-DAto/s320/MTS-Centre.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The numbers equate to this:<br />
<br />
-5,850 season tickets sold in 17 minutes.<br />
-344 season tickets sold per minute.<br />
-6 season tickets sold per second. <br />
<br />
In addition, each season ticket holder must retain their tickets for a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years.<br />
<br />
So, 3-5 years of 13,000 season tickets sold during a pre-sale and in 17 minutes? It would appear that the Winnipeg fans are itching for hockey and as the days go by, they get closer and closer.Evanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01702798292729583413noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-49641018323153756072011-06-03T13:28:00.000-04:002011-06-03T13:28:14.465-04:00Winnipeg: Back in the NHL at Atlanta's ExpenseIn case you haven't heard, earlier last week it was announced that, as speculated, the Atlanta Thrashers were purchased and will move from Georgia to Winnipeg. <div class="MsoNormal">By now, you’ve read about the potential of the Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg by as early as next season. If you rely on some news sources, the move has already happened and could possibly affect the NHL in a big way.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">But probably not in the way you thought.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

Winnipeg is then added to the Central Division. The only gripe (which has come from Brooks Bratten) is the fact that Nashville is not within the same time zone. I retort with respect, so what? Frequently, teams play other teams within other time zones. Especially considering the fact the state of Tennessee is actually split between two time zones; I find it hard to believe there is no way to bump Nashville over.</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">2.<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span>Now this one boggles me. Many reputable sources, including Mr. Bratten and Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy believe that the Detroit Red Wings will move into the Eastern Conference. Now I am an impartial source, despite the fact I believe this is along one of the more moronic lines of thought, but here is how the league would be redistributed. Detroit would have to become part of Northeast. The Northeast would then have to push either Buffalo into the Atlantic division. This would then force yet ANOTHER team into the Southeast division, which would be Pittsburgh. This would eliminate the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia rivalry and instead bring hype to the essentially non-existent rivalry between Washington and Pittsburgh. I say non-existent because maybe once Washington can advance past the second round of the playoffs, then we can talk about a rivalry. Nevertheless, this is still a possibility.</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">3.<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span>Another, more slightly sensible but more unlikely, scenario is pushing the Columbus Blue Jackets into the Atlantic Division. Once again, the league would have to bump a team into the Southeast division. I would recommend moving Philadelphia into the Southeast division. This would attempt to create a Pittsburgh and Columbus rivalry. Try repeating that again. Yep.</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">4.<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span>Now this is simply an outrageous idea from the depths of my warped mind, but you redo the ENTIRE league and redistribute everyone. Unlike most teams, the Thrashers aren't contracted to their arena making them all the more movable, and with the way things are playing out right now, they may have already hung up their skates for the last time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTur9RqNCd9PYauXlMAKyrGCTtZJVe1TcKWE8IWDcZnLp2FCYy3OFHTM8vtm_6fMpdcTgkLjjIHJLL3l0A1Bu5j0AHmVps9vchJx5YRJcjsmMEv6-SUJJXXVgBqR3F2ulMGlMIdb17HbE/s1600/gyi0063462368_medium.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTur9RqNCd9PYauXlMAKyrGCTtZJVe1TcKWE8IWDcZnLp2FCYy3OFHTM8vtm_6fMpdcTgkLjjIHJLL3l0A1Bu5j0AHmVps9vchJx5YRJcjsmMEv6-SUJJXXVgBqR3F2ulMGlMIdb17HbE/s1600/gyi0063462368_medium.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Canada based company True North has been negotiating with the Georgia based group that owns the Thrashers, Atlanta Spirit. As things stand, it looks as if Winnipeg will finally get their team back, and Atlanta will have played their final game as an NHL franchise in a bittersweet turn of events.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The speedy winger led all rookies and the Islanders with 34 goals. Grabner announced this deal just hours ago via <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/grabs40">his twitter</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This deal comes just after the Islanders announced their plans to build a new arena which would replace the 39 year old Nassau Coliseum. It would appear that the Islanders are getting serious and trying to prove to their fans that they are trying to field a winning team. The signing of Grabner was a great start to that, as he is a huge piece to the Islanders puzzle.</div>Evanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01702798292729583413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280035844622678550.post-74349495063518715162011-05-10T13:13:00.000-04:002011-05-10T13:13:16.134-04:00Canucks Advance; Detroit Faces EliminationAfter last nights game, the Vancouver Canucks join the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Boston Bruins in the Conference Final round. They defeated the Nashville Predators by a score of 2-1 last night and take the series 4-2.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There is no doubt that Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne kept them in this series. He had an unbelievable series for the offensively challenged Preds. Without him, Nashville could have easily been swept. </div><a name='more'></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The game changer in this series for Vancouver was Ryan Kesler. Kesler was all over the ice registering 11 points in only 6 games. He threw Nashville off their game, as he constantly crashed the net and aggravated the Predators defense. He was strong all season for the Canucks and now that the playoffs are here he hasn't disappointed. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings will take on the San Jose Sharks in game six as the Red Wings face elimination. Detroit is a seasoned team so it will be interesting to see if they force a game seven. They will have to rely on strong goaltending and they will need their leaders to step up if they want to win. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
