Kaberle to Boston; Big Day for the Bruins

Today was a huge day for the Boston Bruins as we saw them make 2 trades which moved 3 players and 2 draft picks in order to receive star blueliner Tomas Kaberle, centerman Rich Peverley, and defenseman Boris Valabik. The Maple Leafs get future considerations and the Thrashers received a pair of players from the deals.

Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart in Atlanta's most hi-tech training facility.

This trade should make a significant impact on the Bruins remaining games, and should make similar impacts on the Atlanta Thrashers and Toronto Maple Leafs immediate and long term futures.

For further details on today's trades look after the jump.

The first trade made today was a relatively fair deal between the Senators and Avalanche. The Sens sent young goalie Brian Elliot to the Avs for vet goaltender Craig Anderson. Anderson has been consistent throughout his career, but recently his numbers have taken a slight hit, whereas Elliot is a solid young goalie but his trade is part of Ottawa's rebuild process.

The next trade of the day began the Bruins big day with the movement of young star Blake Wheeler and defenseman Mark Stuart to the Atlanta Thrashers for forward Rich Peverley and defender Boris Valabik. This move should benefit both teams as the players involved have been slumping as of late offensively, and a move could be what is best for them personally.

The most recent move of the day was also the biggest with the Boston Bruins receiving star defenseman Tomas Kaberle from Toronto in exchange for offensive prospect Joe Colborne, this year's first round draft pick, and a conditional pick. Kaberle has been the subject of more trade rumors than I can recall in the past two years, so I'm not shocked to see Toronto moving him, but I thought they would ask for at least a moderately accomplished player (e.g. Blake Wheeler, Michael Ryder). Toronto gets the picks they want, and Boston gets a skilled offensive defenseman to help their run for the cup. Everybody wins in their own way...

"OUT OF TORONTO!?!"

Especially Kaberle...
